Include Environmental Information
If you are opening a gas station, you may be scrutinized and regulated by certain government agencies. If your business will impact the environment, you may risk attracting negative publicity from environmental groups or concerned neighbors. For example, if you wish to access funding from government sources, you will be required to complete (or have an expert complete) an environmental assessment impact.
Whatever your business, you must have one eye on the environment and make every effort to protect or manage it in the course of your business. In spite of my disdain for government forms and processes, I would hope you would want to do this anyway–it’s just good business.
Readers of your business plan will want to know that you have educated yourself on any environmental issues, and that you have taken every precaution to manage environmental risks.
Action
If you have set up a working copy of your business plan using the Shell™, this information will be entered included in your business plan as an appendix. It will be included under Section 6 Appendices “Environmental Information.”
- Gather and store any pertinent environmental information here and refer your reader to it in the relevant parts of the body of your business plan.
