Q: Who should I choose to critique my business plan?
Q: Who should I choose to critique my business plan?
Ideally, it will be anyone with business smarts who doesn’t cost you a lot of money. If you’re working with a business development agency, hopefully they will have a business advisor or coach who could provide you feedback. If you don’t have access to a business advisor, consider inviting any business-minded person whose opinion you value, from the following: business owners, bankers, investors, accountants, lawyers, friends or family. The danger in using friends and family is that they may say what they think you want to hear, just for fear of hurting your feelings. What you want are people who will give you honest and candid feedback, not a whitewash. Be aware also that each of those you select will have their area of expertise, and while they might be helpful in some areas, they may be less so in others. For example, a banker will give you the lenders viewpoint, but might be less able to comment on the operational aspects of your plan. We suggest you try a couple of critiques and then weave in their corrections before moving on to get other opinions. And finally, get that one person that every family has who can pick out a typo from 50 paces and ask them to proof your plan for any silly mistakes that might have escaped your notice.
